The Candidate - Short Film (Analysed)

"The Candidate" is a remarkable piece of media, this short film was deeply compeling in regards to how the director approached the story's tone, look and characters dealing with the ideas of beliefs, morality and fate. The story circulates around a man called "Mr Grunzer" who envies his work colleagues and seeks more out his stature, till he is later approached by a gentlemen representing a secret organisation that could be the answer to all his problems.

What intrigued me about the film and it's direction is the sense of pace the film has throughout it's runtime; through the use of it's editing and score, the sequence feels as if its fighting against time which then adds a thrilling tone to the story and supporting the dark nature of the story.

The most compelling aspect of "The Candidate" is the topic the script addresses, elaborating on playing god and deciding on who lives and dies; that inhuman thought we have all given about wishing someone dead. We may not admit it, but we have all done it and this film executes this idea brilliantly. This idea was creatively adapted through it's embodied within the story as a secret organisation formed create for that purpose; to remove people who don't deserve to live.

"The Candidate" is a well crafted film as it understands how to engage and immerse the audience within it's story through its script and direction as we follow the story of "Mr Grunzer" watching the story through his perspective and learning new plot points as if we were living his life.
