Proximity - Short Film (Analysed)

"Proximity" is a science fiction short film that takes place in an alternative reality where humans involuntarily participate in fights for survival.

The story within "Proximity" is told through the perspective of a man participating in this survival game within the woods; the director presents a gritty world through the cinematography as well as with the rise en scene. The entire product was shot entirely hand held, this decision inferred the lack of resources the characters have; by shooting without any forms of camera stabilisation this reflects the state of both the world and characters by having to do everything manually. The use of handheld camera techniques enforce the hardship and the gritty nature of the world within "Proximity".

Within the film's miss en scene, it consists of open environments that have very dry colours within its location in addition to the outfits the characters wear reflect their class and power as the victims of the game wear white; connoting their innocence whilst the hunters wear black to signify their inner evil.

"Proximity" does an effective job at establishing the world within it's story by having the narrative begin with a new batch of participants to the game; acting as our eyes through the story, learning about the world as they do.
