Project Development - Short List: Idea number two

My second idea for my short-film, is an idea originated from a concept I had for a passion project called "Two Lost Souls". A thriller that had two characters locked in a basement together and where they must survive on limited resources until they await for help to arrive; meanwhile uncovering dark secrets about one another. Unfortunately due to certain circumstances that project was cancelled and left alone for a it to be resurrected.

However, I found this to be a perfect opportunity to resurrect this idea but altered some aspects of the story in order to distance it away from my original plans for the project and try different ideas.

The notes state that this idea is title "A Lost Soul" which is a thriller surrounding the theme of bullying. The story revolves around a guy called Max who wakes up all alone in a basement with very limited supplies; Max must find out who put him there and why?

This project has most definitely gained my attention mostly due to the fact that it is a thriller which is a genre I enjoyed taking a go at producing a film of that genre; I enjoyed it so must that it left me with the desire to want to do it again. This was because I want to try alternative ways to create tension and suspense through sound and camera movements. But I want to primarily practise my ability to convey symbolism and meaning within a shot.

Inspiration

"Buried" is a film that is about Paul, a truck driver that awakens in a coffin with 90 mins of oxygen and a phone. "Buried" has the same approach to want I intend on doing with "A Lost Soul" by creating tension and desperation; all buy illustrating how isolated the subject is from the outside world through camera angles and editing.

This film is ultimately my inspiration for "A Lost Soul" as it captured an sense of pacing and suspense towards the audience; a sensation I plan on emulating in my short-film.

I have ultimately come to the decision that I want to pursue with this idea and that "A Lost Soul" will in fact be the project for my A2 media coursework. This decision was made based on my initial love for the source of the idea as well as the opportunity to delve into the thriller genre once again; this project will have a similar approach to who I executed my AS project "Oblivious" but with a greater sense of scope as I get to express the loneliness in such a large location.
