American Sniper - Poster (Analysed)

The poster for "American Sniper" a very simplistic but yet effective design in order to provide it's viewers with just the right amount of information to learn all that they need about the media product from this poster. From the images alone, viewers can immediately associate particular signs as the creative team behind the poster selected two pivotal images that embody their product perfectly. Viewers can learn that this story is about an american solider, inferred from the poster's inclusion of a man dressed in his uniform placed behind an american flag. The indexical sign of the flag connotes patriotism towards the country as well as the military whilst implying the serious nature of the story as the flag implies that the story will revolve heavily round the duties to protect and serve USA.

Viewers also learn a great lead about the protagonist of the story, particularly from his posture and placement in the poster. Viewers glare at him from a side on perspective, implying a sense of reservation about the character as if he is afraid to let people see him for who he is; hiding behind the amour he wears and the flag to protect his emotions.

This is a very intriguing poster with a simple design but still has great impact on the viewer and tell a tremendous amount of depth towards the story and it's characters.
